Other FFA Competitions and Events

Sarah Phelps and Chloe Levan from St. Ansgar, attended the eighth annual World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute that brought together 304 students from 130 high schools at Iowa State University to explore critical global food security issues and discover academic and career paths in STEM fields.

Mentored by Jim Green from St. Ansgar Community School, Sarah Phelps researched malnutrition in Morocco; including Western Sahara; Chloe Levan researched water scarcity in Morocco.

This innovative experience encourages students to explore academic and career paths in fields related to STEM, agriculture and global development and aims to inspire the next generation of leaders through authentic research presentations and networking opportunities with global experts.

The Iowa FFA State Agronomy Career Development Event was held at Iowa State University, on in late June.  The St. Ansgar FFA agronomy team included Chloe Levan, Erik Gerdts, and Mark Bless, who placed 9th out of 25 teams competing in the state competition.  They were also named the 6th place team in the general knowledge exam portion of the competition.

     Dakotah Patterson, Morgan Merten, Caleb Brumm, and John May were members of the St. Ansgar FFA team that received a Gold rating and placed 3rd out of 25 teams competing in the 2019 State FFA Ag Mechanics Event held at Iowa State University in late June.  Dakotah Patterson was the seventh place individual and Morgan Merten was the tenth place individual in the State of Iowa out of the 87 individuals competing in the event.
